Each year, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences selects an advanced student with truly outstanding scholarship as the Dean Steidle Memorial Scholar. To be eligible, a student must be a graduating senior who plans to attend graduate school.
While the selection process typically emphasizes exceptional performance in course work, other factors could be used to distinguish a candidate (such as research accomplishments, unusual creativity of a scholarly nature, powerful and unique intellectual breadth or special scholarly accomplishments under adverse circumstances) also can be important selection criteria. The student should highlight these factors and their future plans in a 1-2 page, single-spaced statement. Two letters of recommendation are required.
- Dean Steidle Award: $2,000
Submission deadline: February 15 annually
NOTE: Application is to be filled out by student. "For references only" section (below) is to be filled out by people submitting letters of recommendation for students.
